We just received Kirsten's winter shirt & skirt from AG today and there is a very strong odor to the outfit. Nothing else in our order was like this. It smells like a mixture of oil, dye, and bug spray. I was going to not worry about it, but the smell is so strong, I am not sure I want to keep it. Has anyone else had this problem?

No, but it's tops on DD's wish list. We were going to get it, but a recent eBay spree put a stop to that! I'll post pictures of all the incredibly beautiful pre-Mattel Kirsten furniture I got super cheap. Sorry, way behind on the photo updates.
I've never had anything smell coming from AG. You may want to exchange it. If it smells, it may have some residue in it that may yellow the fabric over the next few years.

Do you think Kim got your smelly one Ria? Maybe it's being passed around until it finds some owner that doesn't notice the smell?

Yuch! Mine smells, too! I'm so disappointed. I wouldn't have been so upset if it was discounted or something, but for full price, I shouldn't have to try to get smells out. I have it in a box to with the packing bubbles, hoping maybe they'll absorb it??? If not, I guess I'll call. It's supposed to be a Christmas present and I sure don't want it to stink up Kirsten!! If the sweater is wool, the yarn may have been treated in order to keep bugs out. Wool is a delicious munchy to many bugs. I think if American Girl did NOT treat the sweaters, they would end up with a lot of damaged goods and returns. They are smart to give the right treatment to wool items in their warehouses.
I'll bet airing the sweater out a while will dissipate the smell. Perhaps that's why the sweaters at AG Place don't have as much scent - the boxes are frequently opened by shoppers.

Speaking of wool as a delicious munchy, I found some tiny bugs on my wool AG outfits. Can anyone tell me what they are and how to get rid of them? They are about 1/16 of an inch, fawn colored, and segmented like an earthworm. I am so angry to see them make holes in Addy's school suit! Is there anything I can do?

Julia, I didn't get the sweater set, just the white blouse & skirt. I'm thinking it is actually the smell of the dye on the black skirt. I think I'm definitely calling. I'm concerned the dye wasn't set before they packaged it and I don't want Kirsten to have black spots from the skirt. Glad to know I'm not the only one with a funky smelling outfit

When I worked for Magic Cabin Dolls, I used to get some pretty funky smelling fabrics to work with. We tried really hard not to get fabrics with odors, but sometimes it cannot be helped. There are certain treatments that make them smell that way. We aired them out, and in most cases, it was fine. Sometimes we even washed them.
I can remember one particular fabric, that made me physically ill. I couldn't work with it anymore.
I am hoping for the winter outfit for Chrsitmas....If I don't find a pre-mattel on ebay. I sure don't want a smelly one! I bet that if they get lots of calls, they'll pull those outfits and investigate the problem.
